QUESTIONS TO MY BLOGGERFRIEND CARA

wanderlust2

One of my closest friends, Cara, also recently started blogging. Like me, she’s 22 summers old and an aspiring journalist. Unfortunately for my readers who don’t speak Dutch, Cara writes in our mother tongue.

ABOUT BLOGGING

1. Why did you start a blog?

I always thought of a blog as something special, but could never bring myself to starting one of my own. To me, it kind of feels like standing naked in a crowd of fully dressed people. Eventually, I was obliged to start a blog for my master in journalism, and that is how Wanderlust came into existence. A place to gather all of my favorite cultural affairs.

2. Describe your blog

I see my blog as a large pinboard where I can write about everything that interests me. I don’t follow one particular direction, but the subjects mainly circulate around literature, music, film, and theatre. The name, Wanderlust – which you can pronounce in either German or English – covers this content nicely. It stands for the longing to wander. That’s what I want to do with this blog, take the reader with me on my wandering adventures. Hence the motto of poetrygenius T.S. Eliot: “Let us go then you and I”.

3. What do you do when you’re not blogging?

When I’m not blogging, writing is still a big part of my life (either for school or for pleasure). Furthermore, I read a lot and enjoy going to the theatre with my friends. O and eating, I have a weak-spot for delicious food.
4. Who is your biggest supporter(s) regarding your blogger activities?
Without a doubt Waystomakeyousee! My dearest friend Lotte is my most loyal friend and time and again a great stimulant. If her career as a journalist doesn’t work out (which I doubt), she can always become a mental coach! [Thanks dear! You’re my biggest support as well].

ABOUT CARA

1. Describe yourself in less than 15 words
Fond of laughing, open minded, fantasizing, loving, dreaming, organized, critical, curious, impatient and hungry.

2. Your 3 favorite novels

– Herztier – Herta Müller

I don’t think I’ve ever been as in love with someone’s writing style as I am with that of Herta Müller.

First sentence:

Wenn wir schweigen, werden wir unangenehm, sagte Edgar, wenn wir reden, werden wir lächerlich.

– Mercure – Amélie Nothomb

My favorite novel for years and years. Amélie Nothomb invariably delivers a new novel each year and the last few years this has

begun to weigh on the quality of her work. But Mercure stays a beautiful work of art.

First sentence:

Pour habiter cette île, il faut avoir quelque chose à cacher.

– Ein Landarzt – Franz Kafka

The short stories of Kafka are worth reading. A Country Doctor has moved me especially since this story is, even for Kafka, extremely absurd. I’m adding a short animated film in which the story is put into images beautifully. The atmosphere is an exact copy of the ominous, sinister feeling that creeps up on you while reading this story.
