Simone de Beauvoir on Why She is a Feminist

simone de beauvoir

In this rare television interview in 1975, Simone de Beauvoir (one of my personal heroines) talks about why she is a feminist.
She explains some of her famous expressions, such as “one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman”.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with de Beauvoir, I suggest you look her up and start reading her work Le Deuxième Sexe. This work is considered the starting point of second-wave feminism and is still inspiring nowadays.

A must see!

p.s. Stop being afraid of the term “feminism”. It doesn’t bite.
